Matt's knowledge of the body,..

I first started seeing Matt when after years of back problems, it gave out and finally motivated me into taking responsibility for my physical health. I cannot stress how much Matt has helped; he was able to pin point from our very first session where my back issues stemmed from more accurately than my consultant and osteopath. Because of his training and advice, I no longer have back pain for the first time since my teens, and he has helped me form new habits that I will take with me for the rest of my life. Not only have my strength, fitness and nutritional knowledge improved dramatically, my sessions with him have had an incredibly positive effect on my mental health as well.

Matt's knowledge of the body, his non-judgemental, direct and supportive approach means he tailors our one on one sessions exactly to my needs. No session is ever the same, he always keeps things interesting. As a result, I have actually become someone who enjoys going the gym, which I never thought would happen!

Matt has had such a positive influence on my daily life and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I was in a bit of a slump post-injury, doing the same old workouts with no real progression. Matt really dug me out of a hole and gave me the kick I needed to get going again.

From the off, Matt was friendly and approachable, asked about my goals and what I'd done in the past. The workouts he came up with were varied, challenging and interesting, but at the same time accommodating of my dodgy elbow, as well as the limitations of my gym.

He was also really supportive along the way, and I was never afraid to ask a stupid question. I have a strict hour before work to get my workouts done, and I was able to fit Matt's programme into this easily. Over the years I've come to learn that my mental wellbeing is closely dependent on how active I am, and working with Matt has really brought some positive results inside, not to mention the ones I can see in the mirror! I would definitely recommend Matt, whatever your goals

Matt’s expertise at weight lifting and yoga…

Matt is a dedicated, passionate and driven trainer, whose skill and expertise has enabled me to increase my strength and stamina, and whose sense of humour gets me through his training sessions.

His approach to training is fantastic. I have health and past injury issues, and Matt has worked with me to improve my range of movement, technique and strength to the stage where I no longer have to wear knee supports to do weights training. His knowledge and skill in supporting clients who are recovering from injury or who have a disability makes progression seem a bit easier than it actually is. I may end up a sweating heap at the end of our sessions, but I will have had fun too.

So where was In 2017...  Desk job, lower back pain, trudging through my early 40s.  A regular gym goer but stuck in a rut and one who never really got the hang of leg day.  Frankly thinking my gym days were behind me.

Thankfully I didn’t do that, I started seeing Matt.  Simple aims, get my mojo back, maybe see if my back pain could be reduced.

And has Matt delivered?  Totally, and so much more!  Matt’s expertise at weight lifting and yoga have meant my back pain is gone as well as big improvements in my movement and flexibility.  Matt’s coaching is great for keeping interest and motivation high, his programs are based on my individual physical needs with regular redesigns to stop boredom setting in – no one size fits all programs here.  Thanks to Matt I’ve improved my PBs on every major exercise and leg day with Matt is now one of the highlights of my week!  To top all that Matt is friendly and approachable ideal for anyone nervous about seeing a trainer or getting going at the gym.

In the summer of 2014 I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. At age 33 this came as a huge blow mentally, physically and emotionally. After a few months my body began to recover and I learnt that I needed to make some life style changes to manage and control this condition. Prior to my diagnosis I had enjoyed running and after about six months I began to run again, however managing the effects running had on my blood sugar all got a bit too overwhelming. I found I was fighting to manage low blood sugars as I wasn't fully at peace with what my changed body could manage. The enjoyment seeped out of exercise.

I confided in Matt and we began discussing alternatives to cardio focusing on resistance and strength training that he believed would help to stabilise my sugars whilst providing me with a workout that I felt was still challenging. In June 2015 we began training together and I have not once experienced a scary 'low' moment that had become all to frequent. Matt spent time developing a programme that met my specific needs and adapted the exercises depending on my upcoming goals. Matt is an incredibly inspiring trainer who really understands the frustrations that come with starting a training programme when you feel overwhelmed with your own body. He is patient and supportive knowing when to push harder to get results whilst helping to build confidence. I have worked with trainers in the past and always felt like their programmes were designed generically and could have been completed by anyone. With Matt each week I know he has considered the exercises that I enjoy, the ones that I find difficult (but are ultimately good for me!) and that he introduces new elements to our session to build my strength and confidence.

As I continue this new relationship with my health and my body I know I couldn't have a trainer who I trust more to work with. I am grateful that Matt has helped me to enjoy exercise again.

I came to Matt when I was supposed to be training for my first half-marathon but had an old double knee injury that left me in pain every time I ran more than half a mile. Matt devised a series of rehab exercises to build up my strength and I not only managed the half-marathon in a decent time but continued running afterwards - and the injury has never troubled me since! He is a miracle worker. I enjoyed training with him so much that I've been going back to work (slowly) on my upper body - it was the first time in my life I'd even considered touching a dumbbell but he made it fun and not intimidating in the slightest. He works you hard and will set you straight if your mind wanders or you don't pay attention - but he's also great chat, a good listener, and very supportive and encouraging. As well as training sessions he has devised a series of home workouts for me so I get the benefit of his expertise even when he isn't there. He also has a nice accent

With this new exercise plan I felt reinvigorated to go to the gym, particularly because of the varied daily exercise routines. In a matter of weeks, I really saw a difference both in my physical appearance but also, and perhaps more importantly, in how I felt about myself.  As always, Matt was invaluable in responding to my often ridiculous questions and was really helpful in suggesting alternative exercises depending on what equipment was available to me in my gym. Well done!
