So this is me. Matt Smith.
I was a “Big Kid” as they say - a really big kid. By the age of 16 I was getting close to 24 stone, with a 54 inch waist. I struggled with weight issues most of my life. I tried fad diets, fasting, Weight Watchers, Slimming World, applying Syns and Points to things, but to no avail.
On my 25th birthday I decided enough was enough and that it was time to be responsible for my life, my body and my healthy. The first step was to take control of my diet. I then plucked up the confidence to join a local gym, and did what everyone else does - cardio. I put in hours of cardio training thinking it was effective, and followed up with a few, badly thought out, weight training exercises.
Only after seeing a personal trainer did I learn how to weight train effectively, and that's where my passion started. Learning how to be stronger and fitter. Learning how to move the body I had while losing body fat.
Over the next few years, I went on to lose about 11 stone of fat, chucked on a few more of muscle and, became a qualified personal trainer. My aim is to help people with the experiences that I've been through to make their journey a little bit smoother and a little bit more fun. I haven’t just learned to enjoy exercise, I learned to love it, and I'd like to share that with other people.
Things aren't always easy - they're often hard and arduous. In the midst of my transformation, when I felt downtrodden and that things weren't going as well as I had hoped, I realised that I had to treat my body like the machine that it was. I was building it out of STEEL, and I had to fuel it with FIRE.
